Design Program

Ms. Laura Lafrance is a certified Instructor teaching Fashion Design & Technology at DMW COPE Center. Garment constructions is a useful skill everyone needs to have, and at DMW COPE Center students excel with the skills they are taught at the top-level of the technical Fashion Design System. The course materials, designed and developed from scratch by Ms. Lafrance, are designed to help students understand why and how certain garments are constructed, the proper sewing machine to use, and how to safely use sewing materials.  Throughout the course of the year, students work individually and in groups to create garments and projects that are relevant to their unique experiences as teenage parents.

Once students have mastered hands-on skills, they take part in presentations, competitions and other social events to showcase what they have learned, and potentially win cash and/or scholarship prizes etc.  A core value students take away from participation in Design classes is how to have fun letting their imagination precede their creativity while learning a life skill that is invaluable.
